Q: What is the LA Rising Program?
A: Given the current challenges of learning math coupled with the rapid advancement in artificial intelligence, a new program called LA Rising has been created to engage Learners after school in studying math and learning how to operate artificial intelligence tools. The audience for this program predominantly resides in the greater Los Angeles City area.

 

Q: What is Lincoln Method?
A: Lincoln Method is a product of Finland that provides after-school programs that are conducted through online classes. The classes will be taught by trained and certified private Tutors who will run structured courses that help Learners advance in their subjects.

 

Q: What courses will be taught as a part of this program?
A: Although Lincoln Method offers all the courses that are taught in schools, the focus of this program is to offer courses in math, in addition, we will also be teaching Learners how to use different artificial intelligence tools.

 

Q: How are the courses structured?
A: The live online classes are conducted after school. Each class has a live Tutor who caters to the needs of 5 to 7 learners. Each class has supplemental worksheets and training videos in addition to fun quizzes that help the learner address any area of weakness that they might have. Each learner is also required to create a video presentation explaining what they have learned. These presentations ensure that the learner understands what was taught.

 

Q: Is there a product demo video available to give a better idea of how the teaching system works?
A: We have created a video of a real student who operates the app and works with a tutor. Have a look.

Q: How are learning activities structured during the course?
A: Since Lincoln Method follows a Finnish pedagogy, there is a strong emphasis on online collaborative learning. Learners will be encouraged to participate in and complete online projects. They will be taught how to use multiple online collaboration tools (the ones that are currently being used in the corporate world). A key objective of this program is to provide Learners with the same experience of how the corporate world operates and works in teams.

 

Q: What type of artificial intelligence tools will the Learners be taught?
A: Artificial intelligence tools are reshaping the entire landscape, this is why we believe that it is extremely important for young Learners to adopt these tools early on. Our objective is to use multiple tools and elevate the Learners’ proficiency in AI.

A variety of AI tools will be used depending on the grade level and the learner’s capabilities. Here is an example of how learners in Grade 3 are being taught how to launch their own businesses using an AI tool.

Q: Who are the Tutors that will be teaching the Learners?
A: Lincoln Method meticulously recruits and trains tutors before assigning them to an online class. Each Tutor goes through a rigorous training program in order to qualify to teach an online class. The Tutors are from a diverse international backgrounds. The majority of the tutors are young graduates who have more in common with the Learners in comparison to the older tutors in their respective schools.

 

Q: How are the Tutors trained to teach in this program?
A: All Tutors are trained in 8 areas, including:

  • Efficient planning for classes
  • Conducting Dynamic Class Online
  • Ending and Evaluating Online Class
  • Learning Platforms Complementing Online Classes
  • Using Zoom for Effective Online Teaching
  • Efficient Management of Online Classes
  • Promoting 21st Century Skills: Boosting Social and Emotional Development of Learners
  • Designing Collaborative and Inclusive Classroom

Q: How will Learners be able to sign up for courses?
A: Learners can sign up through our website. Once they have signed up, they will also be provided an app, that will manage all of their classwork, as well as provide parents and/or guardians with daily performance updates on the progress of the Learner. Parents will also have access to the app. The classes are held 5 days a week Monday through Friday. Each class runs for 60 minutes. The program is designed to run for 20 classes per month.

 

Q: What is the price of each course offered in this program?
The price of each course in this program is $300 for the month which includes 20 classes. This includes all costs related to the tutor, the coursework, the app, the quizzes, the reports, and many more interesting things.

 

Q: Who will pay the fee for the course?
A: There are multiple stakeholders who can pay for the course. We are expecting that a majority of the Learners will receive these courses for free because the cost will be covered through the generosity of our donors. If the course is not covered by the donors, then the parents can opt to pay for the course.

 

Q: Who will collect the fees for the courses?
A: If the course fee is paid by the donors, then it will be collected by our implementation partner called Universal Citizens Corp. The parent also has the option to pay us directly through our website.

 

Q: Can a Learners participate in the course before the fee is paid?
A: The Learners will only be allowed to participate in the class after the fees have been paid.

 

Q: Can Learners join in late (a few days after the course has started)?
A: The Learners can join the course at any point in time as long as the fees have been paid. The course consists of 20 classes, and the course will stop after its 20th class has been conducted. If the Learner joins in late the course will still conclude after its 20th class is conducted.

 

Q: What pedagogy is followed in the course?
A: Since this is an after-school class, the key objective is to ensure that the Learner advances in math. The Lincoln method follows a Finnish pedagogy that emphasizes group learning through a variety of online group projects and activities. The Tutor will help Learners establish common rules for the group and work together to accomplish goals.

 

Q: Is there a heavy emphasis on testing learners to gauge their progress?
A: The Lincoln Method put its emphasis on learning through group projects rather than through rigorous testing. However, the Learners are constantly encouraged to take quizzes that are available on our app. This helps all stakeholders (the Tutor, the Learner, and the parents or guardian) understand the weak areas of each learner, and then of course of action is developed to transform that weakness into a strength.

Q: Can the students log in from their homes and attend online classes?
A: The students can log in and attend the class from anywhere as long as they have a stable internet connection.

 

Q: Can the Learner go to a community center and use their resources to attend the class online? Will the courses be offered through community centers?
A: Our implementation partner in California called Universal Citizens Corp will be working with multiple community centers as well as church groups to provide a physical space where the Learners can go and participate in the online class with their peers.

 

Q: Will the Learner be able to publish their coursework?
A: All the Learner coursework will be available on their app, it can be uploaded onto their account, and it can be shared and published on multiple locations including social media channels.

 

Q: How can someone and/or an organization contribute and donate towards this program?
A: Donors and other supporters can contribute towards this program and be a part of a positive change that is being brought to the different communities in and around the greater Los Angeles City region. No contribution is too small and all contributions will go directly towards elevating and enhancing the skill level of students within the ecosystem. Q: What kind of employment opportunities will be created as an outcome of this program?
A: This program will create multiple employment opportunities within the ecosystem. We will be hiring Learners from colleges to work with us as coordinators and supervisors to ensure the successful implementation of this program. Our team members will be paid a competitive hourly wage (approximately $20 per hour). In addition, we will be implying knowledge workers work as tutors.

A: This program will open up employment avenues for the following groups of people:

A: Addressing the challenges within the education sector needs all the supporters it can get. A: All parties will be working diligently to facilitate the learning of 1,000 learners through this program and its first phase.
