Why Are Teachers Disconnected With Their Students?

The leadership team of Lincoln Method has started holding a series of meetings with consultants from the education sector to understand the depth of the challenges that teachers face within the classroom. These discussions are very timely because Singaporean startups, like SkillUpz, will now be powered by Lincoln Method’s education technology (EdTech).

A key findings through the discussions with the consultants was that there is a growing generational disconnect between the teachers (Gen Y) and the students (Gen Z). This is leading to more questions:

What is fueling this disconnect between the teachers and students?

Is disconnect because the students’ dependency on technology (phone and tablets) started at an earlier age in comparison to the teachers?

Is it because the neuroplasticity of the students has become molded towards learning from interactive online tools, which are not available in the classroom?

Is the problem that the teachers are not able to keep the attention of students through the existing analog and archaic teaching techniques?

As the group of consultants study these questions and discuss the issues in greater detail, Saleem Qureshi, Chairman of Lincoln Method has introduced support material. He has presented primary data on 500 students who have been learning using Lincoln Method’s textbooks as well as their online learning tools. Mr. Qureshi reflected upon the learning patterns in both cases. A deeper look showed that there was a profound difference in students ‘s results when they use both mediums.
